WHAT INTERNSHIP COMPANIES DON’T WANT YOU TO KNOW ABOUT EXPERIENCE FOR INTERNSHIP
I get to be asked this question, “Do you need Experience for Internship?” and here is my answer from the research I made. Now,
Imagine this: You have 3 – 12 months to do your internship, you’ve got little or no skill at all, or you have a little knowledge of a skill but you really want to intern. What will you do?
No worries, this post is for you, make sure you read till the end.
YES, YOU CAN, EVEN IF YOU HAVE A LITTLE EXPERIENCE OF INTERNSHIP
Now, having experience for internship is necessary, even if it isn’t in your field of study because it could help you know how to work and intern well.
Also, It will help you cope with the pressure of working when you finally graduate and it will give you a greater opportunity to intern in your desired field.
Let’s look at this Instance: If you have a big multinational company, that is doing well, making huge profit and well known for its good employees and you are to hire someone for internship,
will you hire someone that has experience for internship , or will you hire a total novice?
Now, you see, the answer is at your door step.
Your experience for internship can go a long way to give you an added advantage in that field, it could be as low as a research or documentations you have made in that field of study.
All you need is knowledge of that field.
RESEARCH SHOWS THAT AN EMPLOYER WILL HIRE YOU FOR TWO BASIC REASONS:
- IF YOU HAVE A LITTLE EXPERIENCE IN THAT FIELD OF STUDY
Sometimes, I get to ask people looking for internship opportunities, “What can you do/What skill do you have?” Once you have something to offer, you are good to go.
Let’s look at this Instance:
i. In a Sales company, if you have a skill of making customers to buy from you instead of your competitors, boom! You are employed.
Your experience for internship might not be much but a little knowledge of that field of study will make you exceptional from others.
ii. In a Web Development Internship Company, your little knowledge of one or two programming languages can give you an opportunity to be accepted to intern in their company.
So, your skill will give you an advantage.
An important tip in applying for internship…
Get to know the skill/skills(experience) that are required of you in the internship company before you are due for work.
- IF LEARNING IS A GOAL FOR YOU:
There is this quote on learning by Brian Herbert, “The capacity to learn is a Gift, the ability to learn is a skill; the willingness to learn is a CHOICE”.
I know that you might not WANT TO HEAR THIS ABOUT INTERNSHIP, BUT ITS TRUE…
Sometimes, you have to go as low as acting as volunteers to get experience in that Internship company.
Sometimes you will have to decide that you won’t receive any payment from the internship company so that you can get experience; so when the company sees that you are willing and experienced,
you can be employed and paid to work with their Internship company. So, everything is dependent on you if you really understand the phrase, “Do you need experience for Internship?”
So everything depends on you as an individual and your willingness to learn. This is called Volunteering.
Volunteering can help you learn a lot of things, apart from working in an internship company,
you will get to learn a lot of things that are also within that field of study because you are not stacked to one job alone. Get a skill for internship…
